Healing Racism: a Two Part Workshop (Corrected time!)
February 1 @ 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
“The All-Knowing Physician hath His finger on the pulse of mankind. He perceiveth the disease, and prescribeth, in His unerring wisdom, the remedy. Every age hath its own problem, and every soul its particular aspiration. The remedy the world needeth in its present-day afflictions can never be the same as that which a subsequent age may require. Be anxiously concerned with the needs of the age ye live in, and centre your deliberations on its exigencies and requirements.” — Bahá’u’lláh, The Tabernacle of Unity
Please join us for two Saturday sessions in February as we consider what each of us can do within and beyond our faith communities to help heal the pervasive disease of racism.
The writings of the Baha’i Faith refer to racism as America’s most challenging issue and urge all Baha’is to do everything in their power to work toward eliminating it. This workshop will be held in two 4 hour sessions from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM with a midday lunch break. Lunch will be provided.
Part One: The Disease – February 1 — We’ll look at the genesis of racism in America, examine causes and contributing factors, and look at the impacts on society and the individuals within it. The goal of this session is to get as complete a diagnosis of the problem as possible.
Part Two: The Cure – February 29 — We’ll consider the remedy described in the writings of the Baha’i Faith. It is a remedy that can be applied by anyone; one doesn’t have to be a Baha’i or a member of any religion to work for the healing of America. In its simplest terms, that remedy involves the recognition of the oneness of humanity. What does that mean? We’ll explore that together.
It is our goal to foster an atmosphere of learning and to send each participant away with a sense of empowerment.
